The beginning

So it all started with a simple Google search ..."Okinawa Christian Schools". I never knew it would take me halfway across the world so soon.

My husband and I had talked about teaching overseas since before we got married. We knew it was in our future. We originally thought about going to Thailand right after we graduated but they were having a coup so we quickly changed our minds. We decided to do the next best thing...teach in a school with a lot of ESOL kids...that's close enough right?

Well after one year of working there we started to reconsider teaching in a public school and started to look for different options. Out of boredom around March I decided to see what kind of schools were available in Okinawa to teach in (my grandma was born there but I'll probably go into more detail in a later post). Anyways...our options were to teach with the Department of Defence or teach at a private Christian school. I saw that it was very hard to get a job with the DoD because they rarely like to ship people over (maybe it's a rumor) so I decided to look into the private schools. We found one and got in contact with them.

When I mentioned the plan to my mom she said we shouldn't just take the job not even knowing if we liked Okinawa so we decided to look into taking a trip there. Sure, money was a bit of an issue but it was worth it. We took my grandma with us and traveled over!

Now I will leave you in suspense...well not too much because obviously you can tell the trip went well and we are wanting to go. Keep checking back and I'll post more about my trip and about what we currently doing to get ourselves to Okinawa by Fall 2009!
